To say I've had "a few" hobbies in my time would probably be a great understatement! I've recently (re)commenced ballet, I love reading and writing, photography, journalling, yoga and pilates, a few musical instruments, I attempted digital drawing a couple of times (failed miserably. It's a whole different mindset!) and I've even dabbled a bit in nerdy games with my husband (just a bit, though!), plus done a bit of video gaming here and there. But there's nothing like coming back to old faithful: the one thing I've never really given up on and have just continued trying to better myself at. Sure, I've had time here and there where I haven't done it that much, and nowadays my progress is even slower than usual because having a (crazy) toddler means squishing in drawing time between him time, but it's the one thing I've just continued to do throughout my 32 years. :-) I've gotten into the bad habit of quitting when things get tough, but drawing's always been there for me. You don't need a lot of money to do it (although I'm guilty of probably having spent more on stuff for it than I really need to!) and it can be quite relaxing. So much so that I've brought myself to my laptop right now as I was dozing off with pencil in hand. Plus, you feel pretty accomplished when you do manage to finish something that you've been working on for a while. It's not very original, but I have been very much enjoying attempting a realistic style these days. I've got a long way to go before I get to a stage that I'll be completely happy with, but hey, it's the process that counts! I also like animals right now. Not really too sure why... Although my next project will be of a person. ***** On another note, I've continued to peruse various online graphic design courses to do in the next few years before my child begins school. I began studying design after I finished school (2002!!), but I was severely lacking in confidence and quit as I was just too intimidated by my peers and life outside of school. Since then, I've tried so many different things, and now, 14 years later (OMG, am I
that old?!?!?!), I've come a full 360 and am hoping to finish what I started all those years ago! It's a bit of a scary thought, but also quite exciting to think of a future design career! So yay! San Francisco's amazing for art: it's so awesome that art and design are appreciated and valued here. Heck, I'm often taking my toddler to the
children's art museum that's just down the road from where we live. It encourages kids to pursue various art forms and then they can have their work displayed in the gallery. And that's just for kids! As much as I love/d Sydney, I always felt like there was no hope there for careers in arts as they're just not as valued... which is really sad. So for me, living in a city like this is huge and so much more inspiring! My husband is now a small fish in a big pond here, so who knows how long we'll be here for if there's more opportunity for both of our careers!
So there you go. Drawing is like my home. What's yours? ;-)
xoxo
